Tavi

I've been running real low on blog inspiration lately. Truthfully, I'm just too busy having a quarter life crisis and all that good stuff.

Then I saw this picture and here we are.

I've always had a thing for Tavi. It's hard not to. She's the girl your grade one teacher always wanted you to be.

Overachieving since birth (see here) and kinda like Benjamin Button (if you remember her as the kid dressed as a psychedelic gogo during her Style Rookie phase), she's pretty much the best.

I have many What Would Blah-Blah do heroes. Y'know, that whole What Would Jesus Do thang but adapted for my heathen tastes. Oprah has been top of the list for longer than I can remember but I also throw in my bestie-best, Tumelo and sometimes Ali or alternatively Marlon Brando circa 1950 but now I'm trying out Tavi.

What Would Tavi Do?

Best Friend, Boyfriend & Haruki Murakami!

This is a very happy time for me because yesterday my best friend celebrated her birthday and tomorrow my boyfriend attempts to celebrate his. My scorpio tribe take up so damn much of my heart that I barely have space left for Conan O'Brien, receiving money for nothing and baby pug gifs.

Both Tommy and Tumelo are bound to be richessful (rich and successful) so I'm hoping that they'll keep me around or else I will be penning their unauthorized biographies with photos, ya dig? Nonetheless, I got mad love for my two T's and this wouldn't be my self-indulgent blog if I didn't attempt to praise their wonder and all-around amazingness.

In other news, this is a gift from the internet (click here). I engage in delusional thinking on the regular and one of my classic bitches-be-crazy daydreams is that Haruki Murakami is my homeboy. I usually just text him or he invites me for a beer in a dingy bar somewhere. I don't drink beer but that's wholly irrelevant. His writing just inspires that kind of intimacy, well, that's my reasoning anyway. Read this and follow it up with some of this (click here).

“It’s strange, isn’t it?” the woman said in a pensive voice. “Everything is blowing up around us, but there are still those who care about a broken lock, and others who are dutiful enough to try to fix it. . . . But maybe that’s the way it should be. Maybe working on the little things as dutifully and honestly as we can is how we stay sane when the world is falling apart.”
Haruki Murakami, Samsa in Love.
One last thing:
"If we are the same person before and after we love, that means we haven’t loved enough."
Elif Shafak, The Forty Rules of Love.
P.S. I realize that these photos are completely unrelated but I took them and I like them so that's all there is to say about that.

Happy Birthday Tumelooo!

This post is long overdue.

About eleven years to be exact.

Anyone who knows me knows that my best friend is Tumelo. Applications closed.

We've been going steady since primary school (what you know 'bout that son!) and high school was really just the Tum + Heat show for me. Enter the 'real world' and she's been makin' me a proud mama bear and I can't wait to see what happens next.

I have avoided doing a post about her given the fact that there is too much love to capture.

How do I even begin to encapsulate the person who showed me at age 12 that there are people like 'us', who want, believe and care about the things that I alone used to toil with when my B.T (Before Tumelo) friends would say something which would make me quietly hate people and society in general..

The person who can make me laugh so hard and so deeply that my cheeks burn and I continue smiling long after the joke has passed, actually, the joke never passes with us, we still laugh about the same things.

This person when not making me laugh like an obese witch makes me feel sane (somewhat) and understood (fully).

This person is my own person Jesus (stay with me), being a heathen I often ask myself, rather wisely I think, what would Tumelo do?

Basically, she's thee best. Total package Tumz.

Happiest Birthday Beet! Phezulu! I got nothing but love for you!

Yesterday, my lovely bestie Tumelo surprised me with this gem from my favourite shop Forever New.

Happiness on my shoulder.

I love it!
