White Sock & Other Fantasies

This photo does things to me.
Back in the dizzle, when I was would wear a moon-bag (with no irony), I would imagine my future to be something like this: smoking, sportswear X lifestyle and you-can't-sit-with-us eyes. I mean, it is like this photo is stolen from my ten year old brain.
The bright white socks alone make me lick my lips. At the ripe old age of 25, I still attempt to recreate this vibe into my day-to-day look, although more cautiously and more aware of the omnipresence of my thighs.
Unfortunately, I don't have you-can't-sit-with-us eyes, rather, I have been gifted with everybody-talk-to-me eyes which mean that I have been asked for advice, toilet paper and political insight from a menagerie of strangers. I actually enjoy talking to people so I don't mind, although I wish I could be Naomi cool. She's apparently dating Michael Fassbender hey...
I should probably just go whole-hog and live my fashion dreams, I mean YOLO dressing is a thing (see here) but at 7 in the morning when I am getting dressed I don't think about fashion or anything really. I just think about tea and my afternoon nap; I'm basically a baby adult. I bought cute socks from Cotton On recently so it is a start. Like the Manrepeller says: Carpe Diem, it’s Latin for YOLO.

Anthony Gerace & Carl Sagan

1. “We make our world significant by the courage of our questions and the depth of our answers.”
2. “If it can be destroyed by the truth, it deserves to be destroyed by the truth.”
3. “It is said that men may not be the dreams of the god, but rather that the gods are the dreams of men.”
These collages are beautiful (see more here) and so are these words from Carl Sagan, for that reason alone they can be here together.

When you don't like porn, the internet must serve a different purpose.
When I fall down the rabbit hole of a good wifi connection, I usually find myself on fashion blogs, news-y sites or Wikipedia. As I have mentioned, Refinery 29 has stolen many of my good years and The Guardian is my brain coffee in the morning.
Due to this often excessive interneting, I have the attention span of a 5 year old at Build-A-Bear. But when I saw Oroma Elewa for the first time I just kinda stopped. She's beautiful. Really beautiful. All photos of her ever are so steamy-hot-fashion sexy that I scorn my whole Instagram history. But hey you can follow me: @heatherloveslove yo.
Anyway, she is the darling of Tumblr, P.S. reblogging her is your stamp to the cool girls club.
But more than that, (there has to be more) she's an African pioneer. With little publishing experience she had the chutzpah to publish the deathly cool Pop Africana and self-made herself into a fashion/publishing badass. Pop Africana is no more (I think) but her website promises an e-store coming soon and she also happens to be a dj. It seems that when you have as many hours in the day as Beyonce you can get up to a whole lot if you're Oroma... The reason I'm actually doing this post is because I follow Miss Elewa on Instagram and I saw that she's in Pretoria... Yes, The 012!
I would love to become her SA bestie but even Pretoria is a bit far for me. You know what is also quite cool about her? On the Italian Vogue website she listed our own Ma Brr as one of her inspirations. How great?
Too great.

Daily Paper

Tuesday, October 01, 2013
Daily Paper is a brand that Heather and I came across at STR CRD this past weekend. Now STR CRD probably deserves it's own post, just to give me a space to rant at how I couldn't drink anything besides a BOS Ice Tea mix. I mean come on, what 20-something brother wants to drink ICED TEA at 22:00 in the JOHANNESBURG INNER CITY. I'm not being irrational here am I internet?
But anyway Daily Paper, shit's dope (click here). We met Hussain Suleiman at their stall at STR CRD, dude looks really young, but was really cool and bonus points to him, he really loved Joburg. So there you go Johannesburg, at least someone loves you. I managed to get my hands on a baseball tee, so thats my Tumblr win for the year, but honestly I could've walked away with everything on the rack but as usual, bothersome things like how many zero's my bank account has and eating and living got in the way.

I find The Sartorialist a bit meh, I have no real reason but I just feel like Scott is a bit of a dick.
But then glorious Pinterest lead me to this snap that he took of the current GQ India fashion editor and it hit me for a six yo.
She looks beautiful and that hair. Oh Scotty, you did good.

A is for Airforce 1!

I've never been much of a sneaker head, copin' the latest jordans or Air Forces has never been pretty high up on my list.
I mean I've always appreciated the laces off sneakers but like cars or tampons they've never really had my heart.
However lately, sneakers have been creepin' up slowly into my heart, I don't know why, the possibility of getting even like 5% of shoes that make the international footwear scene go into heat like a female deer in the spring of her life, is almost next to nil when you live in Roodepoort, South Africa. But the young go hards are increasing my sense of fashion insecurity with their Nike Roshe Run's and Yeezy 2's or whatever.
So if you're tired of hiding your tatty and fecal matter tinted vans every time a young go hard walks by, congratulations you're in luck!

I have taken my time.
I think Tommy first peddled this song to me last year (yup, he's disgustingly cool like that) and I was like whatevs boyfriend where's my TLC cd?
Anyway, now I get it. I love it. I play it all the damn time. And that little drum thingy happening at the end is just delicious.
The video is swell too. Now I just wanna wear slacks in my house too and I gotta say that I'm not totally adverse to a polo neck either...
Smooth real smooth, real name Chaz Bundick.

Eating The World!
0
From Seoul to Slovenia, London to Osaka... There's so much good eating to get done!
Restaurant and cafe design is my kinda porn on Pinterest and it is well documented that I love food.
One of my favourite parts of our daily night time call is when Tommy and I share what we have eaten throughout the day. Banalities like this are the intimacy that yokes people together. I know that you had Weetbix (three sugars) for breakfast, therefore I understand and love you... Or something like that...
I haven't found my absolute favourite place to dine or drink as of yet but Salon De Factory in Seoul has been one of my semi-favourites (click here) and the famous Angelina's in Paris (you gotta do it) had me drunk with happiness. In India we had thee best fish curry (and the softest rice) at Shiva Garden. Not a day goes by that I do not miss that teddy bear soft rice and spicy fish from heaven.
Closer to home, Royale burgers and milkshakes should be deemed a tourist attraction with special mention going to the real prize of their menu being those heroin-laced sweet potato fries. In Joburg, I have no shame in admitting that I love Tasha's food. Goddamn. That cheesecake alone is worthy of celebration. I am also loving Warm & Glad because like the name says, it makes me feel both warm and glad (I hate myself for that sentence).
Now I'm hungry and next on my to-eat list is roadhouse fare, I hear that Louis Botha is home to a couple of gems and this weekend I hope to wink at death while hoovering a burger and milkshake.

Daiki Suzuki!

Thursday, May 09, 2013
Continuing my recent trend of Japanese men, I offer to you Daiki Suzuki.
He's the creator of Engineered Garments and used to be Creative Director of Woolrich Woolen Mills but then Mike McNairy aka McNasty came through with his irreverent New Amsterdam camo and guns thang so that relationship ended.
But like, damn, whenever you get money, drop a guap on Engineered Garments and then! (This is the important thing) DON'T WORRY ABOUT HOW/WHERE YOU WILL EAT/LIVE/PRAY/WASH CLOTHES because as usual Japanese takes on Americana aren't for the faint of heart or empty of wallet or actually any member of a third world elite (i.e. South African middle class).

Josh Peskowitz!

Wednesday, March 27, 2013
He's also really, really cool. I mean like the dude is (vaguely) somewhere in the vicinity of my age, was the fashion editor of Fader (fucking Fader) and is now the men's fashion director of Bloomingdales.
"I just cried watching Josh Peskowitz tie his scarf round his neck..." Tumblr words not mine.
