2. These Snidel sneakers that I cannot find anywhere on the Internet. I spotted them on the Tokyo Fashion IG page and since then I have fruitlessly Googled numerous combinations of the words "sneakers" "Snidel" and "South Africa".
3. It is only a matter of acceleration now. The way that this article is written.
1. “We make our world significant by the courage of our questions and the depth of our answers.” 2. “If it can be destroyed by the truth, it deserves to be destroyed by the truth.” 3. “It is said that men may not be the dreams of the god, but rather that the gods are the dreams of men.” These collages are beautiful (see more here) and so are these words from Carl Sagan, for that reason alone they can be here together.
Besides being a feast for my belly, Paris was also a feast for my eyes. I saw all the things that you are supposed to see. I also saw some of the things that I suspect you aren't. A stable of prostitutes (yes, that is the correct collective noun) doesn't exactly scream Gay Paree. Neither does a homeless man playing a Ninetendo DS. It seems as though everyone in Paris smokes and has a dog. I came back wanting a doggy of my own so badly that I've been trawling pug rescue sites late at night. These sites have some cuties but also some hounds that look as though they've been rescued from the clutches of Satan. My yet to be found pug will be baptized Princess Cheesecake and we will go on dates to Zoo Lake and stuff. I have it all planned out. Back to Paris, we also had the joy of seeing the Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera exhibition at the Musée de l'Orangerie. This was my favourite Rivera:
Seeing beautiful things up close, close enough to see the paint strokes is an amazing thing. The true nature of anything (people, art, life) is revealed up close, beautiful or ugly, I feel as though up close you'll know for sure.
I love this place. It sums up Johannesburg for me. The beautiful inside of the gallery and the chaotic outside of the street and well, just about everything, manage to complement each perfectly. The art on the inside is given new life by the unintentional art on the outside. I can't tell where the gallery begins and ends. I met Alfred and he decided to show me around. Isn't that nice? He also told me not to have babies yet. Noted. See more things I love about Jobeezi here: CLICKETY CLICK!
P.S. Why is my dress so creased though? My gran would have nothing good to say about me if she saw me then.
The Standard Bank Art Gallery never disappoints. I mean, sheesh, it is even open on a Monday. This exhibition is so beautiful and intelligent. I was alone in the gallery and it felt like mine alone. So just go on a Monday and thank me later. I have always loved this place because many years ago when I was an asshole teenager with a Dawson's Creek mentality my dad took me to see the Picasso and Africa exhibition, I drowned that day. It was too much. I'd never loved my eyes so much before. And so began my love affair with this place. Feed your eyes, they're hungry too.
I wish that I could move in or at least visit on the regular. I'd call her Flo and she'd make me chai tea, probably write a song about me too.
I mean, De Lempicka and Haring on one (amazing) wall proves too much for my heart to bear. I love the fact that before she moved into this place she was living with her momma. It's like Drake and Flo were living parallel lives... "Living at my mama's house we'd argue every month". Oh Flo, invite me over soon, I make a mean cheesecake.
2. This lady and this song! An earworm that I wanna love and nurture. I just wish that I could've been one of the clapping ladies in the video.
3. These beauts from graphic designer Hrefna Sigurðardóttir. Click here to see more of her amazing work. Seriously, the girls drowning (good drowning) in creativity.
Lately Pinterest has been stealing my waking hours. In the safe, super-organised world of Pinterest I can indulge my Susie Homemaker tendencies while pinning ubiquitous pictures of Ashley Madekwe (honestly, the girl is sublime). But every blue moon I come across something that makes my heart smigh (smile and sigh). Just yesterday I found the work of this lovely lady and I fell in love. The detail! The colours! The healthy dose of bunnies! I hope heaven looks like this. Fantastic things like this make me so happy that the internet exists! Click here and here and be happy and amazed too! P.S. The last picture is the interior wall of a fast-food chain in Asia. And that folks is why Asia is the best.
I decided that this year I want to learn more about philosophy, African history and art. Autodidactism has always been my steez anyway. These websites are amazing and best of all they're free! Coursera, EdX and Academic Earth. Get clicking! I love that you get a certificate once you're done... Praise me dammit! I'm going to start with this one just because I want a Harvard certificate that I will print (in colour bish), laminate and mount in the bathroom.
His website bio says that he "layers Science Fiction, Hip Hop, comic books, and black political and social struggles into layered portraits of his friends and community." Me likey.
Some of the photographs that I love most are from the lens of this Dutch photographer. Tommy and I saw her exhibition in Dublin and the haunting images have been in my mind ever since. The first one is my favourite.
