Lately Pinterest has been stealing my waking hours.

In the safe, super-organised world of Pinterest I can indulge my Susie Homemaker tendencies while pinning ubiquitous pictures of Ashley Madekwe (honestly, the girl is sublime).

But every blue moon I come across something that makes my heart smigh (smile and sigh).

Just yesterday I found the work of this lovely lady and I fell in love.

The detail! The colours! The healthy dose of bunnies! I hope heaven looks like this.

Fantastic things like this make me so happy that the internet exists!

Click here and here and be happy and amazed too!

P.S. The last picture is the interior wall of a fast-food chain in Asia. And that folks is why Asia is the best.

I spotted this on Twitter (check me out yo) and it got me all excited and inspired.

I really love drawing, ever since I mastered those 'M' shaped birds I've been doodling up a serious storm!

Jeffrey Fulvimari and Fafi are just the best.

The above is my attempt at drawing (mostly copying) with a little Star Wars thrown in for good luck.

Unicorns & Junya!

This hipster-fresh unicorn is courtesy of Wear This To That

This site miraculously fuses my great love of fashion with all things kawaii.

Plus, this unicorn is so on-trend with this Junya Watanabe camo jacket that this post pretty much wrote itself.

I have to put it out there that I could technically buy this jacket since Mr. Porter ever so kindly ships to South Africa and this thought both excites me tremendously and depresses me Sylvia Plath style since the shipping costs alone are more than my Oros lifestyle can afford.

Alas! One day is one day.

Zakarīyā’ ibn Muḥammad al-Qazwīnī

The truth is always an abyss.

One must — as in a swimming pool — dare to dive from the quivering springboard of trivial everyday experience and sink into the depths, in order to later rise again — laughing and fighting for breath — to the now doubly illuminated surface of things.

Roald Dahl!

I have always loved Roald Dahl. The Giraffe, Pelly and Me was one of my favourites.

I also love Quentin Blake's illustrations, I only wish that I could draw like that.

I don't even know how many times I've read The Roald Dahl Treasury, but I still love it.

His adult novel, My Uncle Oswald is one of my favourites too.

P.S. Roald Dahl Day is celebrated on the 13th of September.

"I began to realize how important it was to be an enthusiast in life. He taught me that if you are interested in something, no matter what it is, go at it at full speed ahead. Embrace it with both arms, hug it, love it and above all become passionate about it. Lukewarm is no good. Hot is no good either. White hot and passionate is the only thing to be." My Uncle Oswald.

Esra Røise!

Norwegian illustrator Esra Røise has worked for the likes of Vogue (China), Wallpaper and Nylon magazine. And I thought being Norwegian was cool enough...

Her illustrations are beautiful and she has a 'ø' (minuscule) in her surname, what more could you ask for?!

Picasso was baptized Pablo Diego José Francisco de Paula Juan Nepomuceno María de los Remedios Cipriano de la Santísima Trinidad Ruiz y Picasso.

Every act of creation is first an act of destruction

P.S. The first painting is my favourite painting, we had a print of it at home that I fell in love with.

Art Envy: Clarissa Paiva!

Tuesday, June 28, 2011

I once read a quote that said "art should make you feel as though fairy tales exist, although they are smudged and often eraserable". I loved this quote as soon as I read it, although it left my rosy-tinted temperament slightly unsettled.

I was once again reminded of this quote when I stumbled upon the drawings above by Brazilian artist Clarissa Paiva (see here too).

Each time I feel as though I have settled on my favourite drawing, another one crawls into the corner of my eye and demands to be the official favourite. Between girls munching hedgehogs and Bambi-eyes galore it's no wonder that I'm so smitten.

It's common knowledge that Swedish people are just cooler and hotter than the rest of the planet. This Swedish illustrator is proof.

My favourite is the sour girl with the bow-tie, why sulk when you look so cute?

I wish I could do this!

These illustrations make me very sad that I cannot draw. Visit the link and mourn my artist talent with me...
